Visit the countryside of Romania in Viscri Cultural Tour

Why visit the village of Viscri? We offer you the Viscri Cultural Tour, where you have the opportunity to see a part of the rural life in Romania. Viscri, the charming Saxon village in Transylvania, is one of the most visited villages in Romania by tourists, with around 30 000 visitors every year. Made famous after Prince Charles bought a property here, Viscri is now listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, being one of seven villages with fortified churches on this select list of protected sites.

Viscri Cultural TourPart of the commune of Bunesti and located about 80 kilometres from Brasov, Viscri can be reached via the village of Dacia, on a country road that climbs and descends through the hills, or via the village of Bunesti, neighbouring Dacia. The old architecture, which has been in the village for more than 200 years, is charming!

Viscri Cultural Tour is suitable for all ages?

Yes! Both adults and children can enjoy a day out in nature. We will visit the Saxon Fortified Church together. It is located in the centre of the village. It was built during the 13th Century on the site of a former Roman church. The church is surrounded by a fortress with defensive walls, two bastions and two towers. It is said to be the most beautiful fortified church in Transylvania, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site (since 1999).

We will also visit the museum, where you can admire traditional objects from the village, the church, the inner courtyard and the walls that were used to defend the church in the Middle Ages. You can also reach the church tower by climbing a rather narrow and obscure staircase, but at the top you will be rewarded with an impressive view of the entire region surrounding the village.

What else can we do on the Viscri Cultural Tour?

In Viscri Cultural Tour we will show you where to enjoy their traditional food. Some of the most popular dishes in the area are the cream of sweet tomato soup with roasted peppers and basil and a dish of potatoes with cheese and peasant pork sausages, called „Shepherd’s Potatoes”, which you can enjoy in a local restaurant. The place is worth a try both for its divine food and for its interesting decor, made in the Saxon style, of course. If you’re craving something sweet, order the berry cake! You’ll love it!
